Biography

Janet Kolodzy considers herself a “consecutive convergent,” having worked in newspapers and television as well as dabbling in online before joining the journalism faculty at Emerson College in 1998. During her nine years in newspapers, she was both a reporter and editor at the Arkansas Democrat and The Plain Dealer in Cleveland, Ohio, before moving to the Cable News Network. During her 11 years at CNN and CNN International, she worked as a writer, copyeditor, producer, and senior producer. She also spent one summer working at CNN.com.
As an educator, Kolodzy has been instrumental in the design and implementation of convergence-oriented undergraduate and graduate curricula at Emerson. She has developed and taught two key convergence skills courses: “The Newsgathering Process” for undergraduates and “Writing and Reporting across the News Media” for graduate students. She has written papers and made panel presentations about teaching convergence and convergence journalism practices at several national and regional conferences during the past four years.
